Welcome! After Wednesday’s action, we held a 13 Heroes Online Vigil to support MPs who were working to oppose the Omnibus Budget Bill through continual voting on Wednesday and Thursday. We invited MPs to get fresh doses of inspiration and courage by watching this page on their laptops and smartphones in Parliament through round after round of voting. You can join in by sending a photo of yourself holding a sign, which could just be a piece of paper, saying “Heroes Defend Democracy, Stop C-38″ to photos@leadnow.ca.

Ryan Leef had a lot to say about being an independent mind in Parliament when he was seeking election. He might have more than a couple hundred constituents (his margin of victory) wondering where that independence was during Bill C-38 amendments.

The Lethbridge Herald editorial team get it…
“When somebody’s staging a protest on Parliament Hill, nobody gets excited anymore. They’re an everyday occurrence. But when an issue sparks protests right across the country – including Lethbridge – maybe we should pay attention.”

A Special Note to Our Members of Parliament
The following was sent by Leadnow to all Members of Parliament and their staff:
Dear friends,
Today Canadians from across the country are participating in a “13 Heroes” day of action to defend our democracy, support opposition to Bill C-38 and call for 13 Conservative MPs to work together to stop the Budget Bill, split it, and start over.
As the continuous voting begins tonight, we’re writing for two reasons.
Local rallies in front of Conservative MP offices – First, to make sure you know that there will be over 80 rallies in front of Conservative MP offices and support locations across the country, most of which will start at 5:30 PM local time. You can see if there is an event at your office, or in your community at a support location, here: http://heroes.leadnow.ca/search/
Online vigil to support pro-democracy MPs through the voting – Second, we have set up a website where all of the photos from the rallies, and photos from individuals who want to support every MP with concerns about this Budget Bill to stop it, split it and start over, will be collected and presented to support you through the night.
We encourage you to tune in at the website with your laptops and smartphones during the voting for fresh doses of inspiration from the thousands of Canadians from coast to coast who are standing up for their democracy tonight: http://heroes.leadnow.ca/live
And we invite you to join the conversation on twitter by using the #13heroes hashtag which will stream on the page.
To those of you we know will stand up for democracy tonight: thank you. And to those of you we know have grave private concerns, yet are being instructed to vote for this terrible bill against your better judgement, know that thousands of Canadians are watching, and they are sending you courage to stand against Bill C-38.
With hope and respect,
Jamie and Matthew on behalf of the Leadnow.ca team

Letter to the Editor: A few dissidents can go a long way
We need an MP with the courage and foresight to represent us effectively.
I am following up on MP David Tilson’s comments in the June 7 Orangeville Banner about the recent LeadNow.ca federal budget protest at his Orangeville office.
Mr. Tilson states protesters should come “when the office is open.” A few months back I had the pleasure of attending a previous LeadNow.ca protest at Mr. Tilson’s office. We were there when the office was open (Mr. Tilson has very limited office hours with no evenings or Saturdays). We made our presence felt on Broadway, and then delivered to his “friendly” staff a Lead Now national petition asking for changes to the crime bill.
Days and weeks passed with no reply from Mr. Tilson or his office. The Banner also followed up, with no success. Finally, I gave up and emailed Mr. Tilson (on his personal email address) and received and immediate and cranky reply from Mr. T that I was abusing my privileges by emailing him a question.
A few days later, I received a photocopied package on how to submit a petition to Parliament.
We need an MP with the courage and foresight to represent us effectively. Instead, when you visit Mr. Tilson’s website, he is still looking for your input on the 2011 federal budget. Dave, it is 2012!

Collection of great signs from today’s National Day of Action
Today, at 5:30PM local time, while our MPs gathered in Ottawa for a decisive showdown in Parliament, we rallied their home ridings, and communities across Canada, to call for 13 “hero” Conservative MPs to work together and stop the Bill, split it, and start over.
By working together, 13 Conservative MPs can make sure Prime Minister Harper and his cabinet have to change plans or lose the support of the majority of votes in Parliament they need to pass the Budget Bill.
